About
Being an Accountant I was always the least artistic of a family of six highly creative and talented individuals, but somewhere deep within I had a niggle that I had an artistic yearning.
My dad introduced me in early life to drawing, he was a draughtsman by trade, and it was through watching him that I sometimes picked up a pen and doodled. I discovered I was quite good at creating patterns and shapes and when I dug deep and overcame my impatient tendencies I could finish a drawing and reflect on my finished product with some satisfaction.
Then one day after a few decades of not picking up a pen I decided to have another attempt at creating a drawing. I started what I now reflect on as being simple, few colours, but the end product was pleasing. My second drawing soon after the first was an attempt to add detail and some level of “complexity”, with an added flare of colour. Needless to say this took some months to complete, but the finished product surprised me, I had stumbled on the beginnings of a style and technique I have since evolved and fine-tuned.
I was hooked, my addiction to creating grew and grew. I added complexity and a vast array of colour, to the point where I now have an impressive range of styles and colour and endless ideas for the new piece.
I find peace and sense of calm as I create my drawing. I often gaze at previous creations and explore the detail, sometimes reflecting on why I did what I did, but more often than not wondering how I managed to weave the patterns as I did.
